How often do you guys use injector cleaner?
Well my Pontiac is finally running right. I added some injector cleaner and took it out on the freeway. I have heard there is no reason to do this with injector type systems, but I ran the crap out of it and it is doing much better. Now I have a set of Bridgestone tires that need thrown away. They are really bad. After that the car should be in great shape. 1997 SSE 101k miles. New power steering pump, transmission work, torque converter, new radiator, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new belt tensioner, new power steering reservoir, new water pump, 2 new serpentine belts, wheels balanced, new plenum top side, 3 new thermostats, needs new tires. It leaked ridiculously, fixed leaks, new fuel guage. New battery. What next?
Works good now.

As to the topic question, it depends on which injector cleaner you use. Some are every tank, some are based on miles. I tend to throw a can of B12 in my tank about 2 or 3 times a year.

Injector cleaner worked well for me. I actually use some redline or techron every month or two and feel it helps keep things running smoother. Plus their additives help lube the fuel pump, from what I've heard. There is no doubt that your injectors can get clogged with crud. just read some of the info on here where members have seen injectors that had so much crap in them, they were jammed open.

He couldn't have 2 serpentine belts. 97 SSE. I think he means he'* changed the serpentine belt twice.
Anywho... The only thing you didn't do is replace the lower intake manifold gaskets. NA or SC, they're known for getting pretty nasty. Especially over 60,000 miles. Mine were severely deformed at 77,000 miles. I did them again at 115,000.
As for injector cleaner, I've never used it. 144,000 miles and never had one issue with the injectors!

yeah i drop in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner once a month or so...along with a couple bottles of octane booster...maybe is not that great of an idea, but it runs REALLY well on that one tank of gas.
Glad you are doing some good maint, always good to replace things.

Those bottles of octane booster aren't doing you any good. Two bottles are only boosting you from 87 to 87.2 octane.
And once a month is WAY too often on injector cleaner. When I'm not running Toluene in the tank, I run one or two bottles a year max. Most modern fuels have all the detergents you need to keep your injectors clean.
After 110,000 miles, my 6 stock injectors flowmatched at 1.88% before cleaning. After cleaning and replacing the filter baskets, they came in to 0.8%. Anything 3% or below is good.

Correct. It ate a brand new serpentine belt in less than a week when the belt tensioner failed. It made a big mess including knocking a hole in the power steering reservoir, also knocked the oil pressure sensor off! I has not been good with serpentine belts. I believe it has had 4 total that'* including the one it ate.
You know I don't believe the mechanics working on the car have been very observant. I thought they should have caught the belt tensioner problem before it caused all that trouble.
Great!
