Default High OD transmission RPM'*...Need help and info.

Allright, I need to know if I really have a problem. What RPM should a stock 93 with the L27 and the 2.84 4t60-E runs at 70 MPH. I dont think it ever drops into overdrive. Here is what my RPM'* run:

60-2000
70-2300
75-2500

It doesnt seem like this could be the right RPM for my car with the 2.84. It seemed to drink a quater of a tank yesterday on the highway going 55-75 the whole time, for about 30-40 miles. What is up with my transmission? Is it running high?

*Also, my car is shifting at 6000 or so the tach says when I redline it. I have yet to figure out if the tach is off. Please give me the RPM'* your car runs with the 2.84 at the speeds listed.

Thanks,
Andrew

I used to own a 93 with the 2.84 gearing. I loved it because on the highway, doing 75, it would run at about 1,900 RPMs.

Since your car indicates that it shifts at 6,000 RPMs at WOT, I'm willing to bet that it'* also indicating much higher RPMs at highway cruising speeds.

Andrew...

check the vacuum to the modulator on the front of the trans and consider that tps etc can cause odd shift points.

I'm wondering about your TCC lockup.

I'm almost willing to bet you have a lot of TC slip. Can you get a scan while driving?

As JW mentions, it'* not a picture type of thing. You'd need a scan tool to see what is going on with the parameters of the engine/trans

yes, it does. And I checked the vacume lines....I need to replace a bunch of them. There isnt a major leak, but i'm sure its got to be leaking some. My next though is, since it does go into OD, if the tach is +400, then it would be about right.

This is what my rpm'* would be if you subtract the 400 from my off tach.

Speed---------My RPM--------------- -400 RPM
Idle* 1000* 600*
60 2000 1600
70 2300 1900
75 2500 2100

*-My idle never drops below 1000. EVER. Most cars I know of idle around 5-600, including my Mom'* 00 SE.

Does this sound like tach since it goes into OD at 48 and the tach says it shifts at 6000, which the computer shouldnt let happen. Oh, and I can downshift into 2nd at 80 MPH. Should that happen in the 2.84. Its near 6000 when it does that on the tach.
