A scan tool will indicate which EGR solenoids are commanded on and off, but they'll only be commanded to turn on while driving, after the engine reaches operating temp. The solenoids aren't energized at idle or in Park.

I can't disagree that it shouldn't be bad, but stranger things have happened than new parts not working properly. It costs nothing but a little time. Blownville, you'll have to decide from your observations whether or not you want to try that first, or go right to taking things apart.

I looked-up the code last night, just to make sure we're on the right track. Code 54 is indeed an EGR error.

Because the electrical connectors look ok, and the EGR valve is only 3 weeks old, I'd check to make sure that the EGR tube isn't obstructed, and if it isn't, I'd swap the EGR valve.

OK, but please ensure that all the vac lines are good first. I've replaced what I thought was a fualty EGR before, only to find that I had a vac hose leak.

Ok if you check the picks that Eric posted from the boneyard awesome score. I picked up a fairly new looking GM EGR. I will swap it when I get a chance (maybe). The whole trip and all the time riding around the SES has not come on at all today. I had the air off and on, and either way the light never came on. So I will let you know if it does again. I have checked and replaced all vacume lines already.

P.*. If anyone needs a blower I have one in nice shape. :o

Well I am not sure if you guys are following this thread still, but driving around today the light came back on and off again. Possibly on Sunday I will be swapping some of the boneyard parts on my Bonne to see if I can fix a few of the problems. One of them being the EGR valve that I picked up. I will post back when I find out what happens. :(

Yep - still watching your progress. If you haven't already - don't forget about the vacuum lines as Lash suggested.
