I did notice that too (The big chunk) but im thinking the crack could have caused the entire failure of the control arm. Almost looks like some metal was peeled upwards where the appearance of the crack is. Either way its a bum deal.

I did have to torch the nut on the front bolt to get it loose, i smelled some burning rubber, so I don't know what kinda shape the front bushings are in. It was a MAPP torch, suckers get pretty hot...
