Thanks, after today I needed the chuckle.

Removed Coils and ICM, cleaned contact areas, still no fire, just cranks over. So, tomorrrow I'll change the ICM (soonest I can get ahold of one), and if the car still just cranks, then I'll change the Cam and Crank sensors.

Thanks for all the help guys!

"tries to fire, no go".

Timing chain. From my experience, they jump a few teeth during a startup, and have nearly no power at all. Shut it off, and the next time it'* jumped far enough that its not gonna start. It usually jumps so far that the lack of compression and massively mistimed spark means no go.

if this happened, wouldn't the PCM tell the discrpency between the cam and crank sensors and set a code?

IT'* ALIVE !
IT'* ALIVE !

Got the ICM (we have auto recyclers here in Sacramento - $53.00) and it came with the Coil Packs. Removed the Coil Packs and put mine on the new ICM, 5min later with everything bolted back on, car fired up on the first try!

Purred like a kitten again! Took it out (testing it) ~ and everything seems great again.

Thanks Willwren, the ICM was the problem.

Default ICM

Just had the same problem with my 90 SSE.
It died on the highway and would not refire until I removed the ICM wire harness and re-installed it.
I wouldn't throw the old one out as it could have been bad terminal contacts on the ICM harness.
I would remove the wire harness once more and re-tighten the metal clips that attach to
the pins on the ICM. This will assure future trouble free operation.

Glad you got it going! Another West Coast Bonneville lives on

As far as the timing chain suggestion is concerned, with over 3000 cars here, I have yet to see one jump a single tooth.

We have a very superior tensioner/chain setup on the 3800'*.
