HELP ! 99 Bonnie wont start,smells like wires/ignit. switch
Ok I was driving home and smelled hot wires inside the car and then the volt meter went to zero and then back to 14 then again went to zero and I smelled hot wires and then it was ok again. I pulled it in my buddys driveway and shut it off and it would not start. The radio lights and the heater lights but no dash lights when you turn the switch. if you turn the headlights on with the headlight switch then the dash lights up. I have power to the alternator and to the starter, jumped the starter and it works fine.Battery and all connections are good, clean and seem ok. I dropped the braket holding the steering colum up and pulled the plastic cover off the ignition electrical switch( not the key switch ) with all the wires and that smells burned but I didn;t see any burned wires. Did it short internally ? How big a job to chg the electrical switch ? It seems to be hard wired in I don't see a plug ? : ? Could it be something else ? Who would sell a new switch. I really need this car running its all I have. It has 206,000 miles. Thanks so much for the help ! :?:

When you say it won't start, what is the symptom? Does the starter and engine turn, or does it do nothing at all? Did you happen to notice any puffs of smoke when the problem showed up? What does the security light do?
