Capacitors DON'T reduce strain on the electrical system! The Amp is still sucking the same amount of power from the alternator/battery. They merely are a small pool of electricity. If your going into the red with that amp, your alternator is dying, or almost dead. It'* merely a patch. If you have a good power system, a Cap is there just to keep the big hits from dimming the lights IMO.
Both of you need new alternators, as Don said, Go AC delco, or go to the store a lot. I was able to get my 140amp beast for $12 more then the standard 105.

I am pretty positive it is the alt because when I first installed my subs nothing dimmed. Now almost everything dims when I turn it up.
I'm still trying to decide 140 or 160 amp.
