gears missing *final update*

I have said this a million times as I have seen issues like this first hand... There are not many people that can truely rebuild a FWD trans correctly... These people are few and far between... I have known a couple of guys that could rebuild Turbo 350'* and 400'* as well as 700R4'* in their sleep... But they would not touch a 3T40 or 4T60... Always amazed me... I have seen several 60, 60-E rebuilds that sucked and ended in failure around here... And the one guy locally that could rebuild FWD trannies pretty good sold his shop, and moved back up north...
They are few and far between... Unless you find a good shop like the guy Willwren dealt with than you may have a hard time ever getting it rebuilt correctly...
Little story here...
Friend had an 87 Bonneville... With the 440-T4(4T60).... They were towing a boat and burned it up... It was fried into second gear... It was taken Amocco( spelling ) and they rebuilt the trans... a few months later the pan was full of metal... They changed the fluid and took it back( they had to drive 90 miles )... The trans was pulled and dissassembled under warranty.... They found that the trans internally was destroyed... They had no choice but to purchase them a new trans, this happened in 91 so the new trans did have the updates... I believe that they had to have flushed the passages in the radiator as they never had another trans issue and drove the car to 200k or so...
But for what its worth I think you need to take it back... It does suck tho..

I agree with Don 100%. 4T60'* are nearly black magic. You HAVE to go to someone that REALLY knows their ****.
I had a VERY good bulletproof rebuild done by a real pro. The guy is a legend here. I had a 10 minute conversation with him to test him on his knowledge of the 60 and 65. That'* all it took. The guy really knew it.
Matt then had one spec'd out up in Alberta. The shop sez: "Sure, we can do that, just like the one in Oregon". They built it.
But didn't bother even changing the shift solonoids or the TCC solonoid. Matt'* trans went back in a month later.
You have to find the right shop. In your case, you have no choice but to take it back and make them fix it. Either the TCC solonoid isn't attempting to engage (scantool will tell whether there'* a request or not) or the PCM is seeing another issue preventing the TCC from even trying (scantool again). The lack of TCC lockup is more than enough for a warranty. Don't wait for it to blow.

Strange to see that its stuck in 3rd gear...
with the 1870 set the Trans will not see 4th gear...
I believe that the rebuild you had was not done right... They did it wrong and need to honor the warranty...

u think its stuck in 3rd? because, it does that in reverse and in drive, after 5-10 secs of doin that, then its grabs and acts fine.

Sounds like the Pump may be history too... Either way that trans is history...
What kind of problems did you have before you had the trans rebuilt? Or what was the reason for the rebuild?
And have you talked to the trans shop yet?
