Fuel Pump Failure? Anyone have these same symptoms?
#11
I just replaced the fuel pump in our '87 vandura, and I mean hours ago. The pump died a slow death, almost like the impeller or diaphram wore out. It would keep fuel pressure at idle, but the motor would stall any higher than that. The pump we pulled out was able to put fuel 3ft in the air, the new pump can do over 13ft, and the spare pump I have from the 94 can do higher than that. It'* the same style pump, So I imagine ours can do these things too. Just a thought there guys.

Say, Damemorder, that just further confirms my experience, and Ranger'* too, of sometimes having these pumps "fade away" instead of immediately dying.
MAN, I LOVE your test comparison method !! That is WAY COOL
Sheesh, I can just see it now: I'm standing out in front of my garage, testing my pumps, with the rooster tails aimed over my neighbor'* fence just hoping that she is not smoking another cigarette (sorry Linda, -you'd have to know our neighbor,,,) -maybe I'll have to show her this thread
(--,,,and then again,,,, maybe not)

pump
I worked for Walbro in fuel systems. The enemy of your pump is rust, water
and contaminants.
Do you every use additives to keep your fuel system clean? (injector cleaner, mystery oil, Isopropal gas dryer)?
I use marvel mystery oil every 6 months and gas dryer in winter.
Both pumps are original and work like a champ.
