Back to this issue. A little more info.

I've stopped driving the car at the moment cause I am concerned about it leaving me. Got my roommates 5 spd 98 240sx to drive while he is in NYC til sept, so this isn't too big of an issue.

When I first turn the car on, but not start it, it is fine, clock is right, radio is on the correct station. When I go to turn it over, everything cuts out, then the starter slowly turns and finally catches and starts the car. The car runs a little rough for 30-60 seconds then fine. However the clock is reset to 1:00, it is off, and set to CD. Presets all are fine. Car runs and drives fine. I am going to be taking the Battery and Alt over to autozone and have them tested. I am leaning towards starter on this one.

Yes, Have them load test the battery & generator, that way if they check out satisfactorily, they can be ruled out. That would leave the starter motor as the potential fault in the scheme of things. If you decide to pull the starter motor to check, be careful, it is a high torque DC series motor and should be under load when power applied. However, if you just momentarily apply power then remove power immediately just to check rotation, that should be alright. But make sure it is secured good to keep it in place.

Well, More bad news. Car is dead at the moment. No Power. SO something is drawing the power from it. It has been sitting since yesterday evening. I started it last night and ran it for 5 minutes. Tonight I went to unlock it and it barely had the power to light the keyhole. Going to try and work on it more tomorrow. Looks like the new vehicle might come sooner than later.

FIXED IT!

Well, I fixed my car (knock on wood). Turns out it wasn't the fuel pump or a power drain. It was a dead battery.

Here is what happened. My battery was older, and had been jumped numerous times when I got the car, but was still fine. Recently, something in my trunk turned on the air compressor while driving and I didn't realize it, and that killed my battery. After jumping it a couple times, I realized the compressor was on and turned it off. Unfortunately, all the jumping killed my battery and it would not charge past 10.7 volts, which apparently is just enough energy to start the car. Went to the store and bought a new battery and installed it, and everything is good now so far. had it in 2 days with no signs of a drain on the car. Starts up great now. Which is good cause I need money for my other project.
