Ext. Temp -29F in July...
So, I get back in my 93 SSE w/ the auto climate control this afternoon after a quick trip into the gas station. Restart w/ the AC on auto. I can feel it start blowing hot air on my feet. I make sure it'* on the correct temperature then just by accident pressed the Ext. Temp button. -29F... which is steadily climbing as I drive. Needless to say I had to turn it off & roll the windows down soon enough b/c it was 85 today. As soon as the ext temp showed back above 70 I turned the AC back on and it worked fine. Took about 10min for it to go from -29 to ambient. Anyone had this problem before or am I the lucky one?
Thanks
Thanks

Check the connection to the sensor. On my 1999 it is mounted in front of the radiator, visiable when you open the hood. It has a weather-pak connector going to it. I think -29 is what the system reads when it gets no signal, as it works off of reisistance.
The AC didnt work because it is designed not to if the Ext temp is below 40 deg.

Thanks, I'll check that out. I remember noticing it before... mainly because it'* not mounted to anything just sitting on the radiator cross member. Surely it bolts to something.

I just tested mine, when it is disconnected the temp flashes, but our systems might be programmed differently.
But the reason is the same why the AC didnt work.
It is supposed to mount near the bottom of the vertical support infront of the radiator. It sits in the direct stream of air the comes in the slot in the front facia.

I would suggest replacing the air temp sensor. It would take about 1 minutes to replace it and I think they are under 10 bucks at a dealer.
