I had a dissgreement with the parts guy with the CV boots, this is why I went with the whole shaft. Then I had a dissagreement about the shaft and he told me that the part on the transaxle had to come out and he has a service bulletin to support that which I never received. He also told me that it was a generic service bulletin related to a Cavalier. I then told him that there tranny was totally different, and he didn't seem concerned.
Point is, I have to be absolutely sure this time and I'm going to have to prove it to him.

Thanks jr's3800

Yeah, just take along the photo you posted here and show it to the guy. To really seal the deal, take a photo of your trans on the driver'* side and show that to him. I am concerned now about the driver'* side shaft in your trans. That is, that you almost certainly caused some damage in trying to pry it out. At the very least, you may need to spend some time with some small files or a Dremel tool with some small carbide bits to remove any gouges or scrapes on the splines, before you attempt to install the replacement axle. If you do that, stuff a rag or pantyhose around the shaft in the trans so that metal filings don't end up inside the trans. Carefully examine the lip seal for damage or cracks. You may want to replace it just to make sure you won't be leaking fluid when it all goes back together. Also, if the circlip (snap ring) stays with the male shaft in the trans rather than the axle shaft, you will probably want to get and install a new one. I hope you didn't do any serious damage to the trans by prying on that bugger.

I could understand the wrong axle if the box was opened when you got it. Clearly the wrong side though.

Overhaul manual shows the passenger side as Male, and Drivers side as Female

Ok, thanks, I am more confident now that they gave me the wrong side.

I'm going to do that, but I think the FSM will seal the deal.

That is, that you almost certainly caused some damage in trying to pry it out.

The instructor warned me that he had done a lot of them at GM and he stated that if that spline comes out, it will screw up the planetary gears, but we tried anyway.

Before I left last time I was there last week, I check the spline and seal and they both seemed ok. I'll check again, it doesn't hurt to look. We were very carefull not to damage it just in case we were wrong.

I'm getting really tired on getting the wrong parts 50% of the time. And to boot this time I went to a more reputable place and it looks like it'* still wrong. When the boot didn't fit he still didn't admite he was wrong, so I said ok then, just give me the whole shaft assembly then.

It pisses me off that they want to use a bulletin from a Cavi... Just nuts...

When I questioned him about that his response was that they were both GM and it was a general Service Bulletin.

I need to get my paperwork in order.

Thanks my friends

Well my son had a chance to take picture of the drivers side transaxle and I believe it looks exactly like the one in the FSM.

Tell me your thoughts, since I'm going to approach the Parts Shop on Monday and give them my research. I'm hoping this time they will agree that they made a mistake.

They certainly did. No question about it. Take the picture and the shaft and ask the guy to pull another one out of the box for the driver'* side and look at. Then, accept the apology.

BTW, get a new circlip for that shaft. The old one is hanging pretty big in its groove.

Thanks for the reply bill, they had to order the one I got but it was just a matter of hours. As for the apology, I doubt that will happen, since they wouldn't admit they make a mistake with the boots, but I'll be really happy just to get the car back together again.

Party time in this house once that happens. I have to have the Bonne back together by Tuesday night, or else.
