Holy Buckets! I think the parts house just gave you a right side shaft instead of a left. We have been advising you on the basis that the inner tripot joint of the drive axle came apart and would not release from the transmission. Does the driver'* side of your trans look like the one in the picture you posted? If so, you just need the correct shaft. If that turns out to be the case, you may want to restrain yourself from killing the counter man. If that is the case, I wish we had seen the picture earlier, and I apologize for providing inaccurate advice. :(

Where did you get the axle & do you have the part number?

I got the axle at a well know parts supplier that has been in business for approximately 35 years and it was a rebuilt one.

Yes it does look like the one in the picture and no need to appologise. I should have posted pictures of the car but I didn't have a camera with me.

I'm trying to find the reciept but can't locate it at the moment, although it may just be listed as a remanufacted CV axle shaft.

I'll try to take pictures on Friday, but I know that the next semester start Friday and they'll want it out of the shop soon. Hey I want my Bonne back soon.

I guess the question I ask is for those that have done the drivers side, was it female at the other end?

Thanks Guys, any comments are appreciated.

On my '95 SLE with a T460E (not heavy duty), the driver'* side of the trans has a shaft and the end of the axle is a female just as shown in the picture you posted above. If they gave you an axle with a male end, I think you got the wrong axle. 35 yrs or no.

What transmision do the 95 SSEi'* have, the instuctor said something to the effect that it was a 400 or a 440?

400'* and 440s are rear wheel drive, I think. You should have a 4T60E heavy duty in your SSEi.

Thanks Bill, I've make copies of those pages I have on this post and sent it with him to school when he goes back on Friday. This way his instructor, (well previous instuctor since it'* a new semester) can take a look at it and refer to my Bonne which he has.

On my previous post, i thought you were talking about the tripot as well.

The transmission is a 4t60e,

The original (non-electronic) 4t60'* number was originally 440t4

mmblf, the question I have for you now is: was there, is there still, a tripot housing attached to that driver'* side transaxle shaft from a split inner joint on the drive axle, or was it just the splined shaft of the trans you were trying to remove? I can't imagine how you could get any purchase on the splined shaft and what must have happened to it if you tried.

I had to do a double take to realise that mmblf meant me and I like it. The part that I was trying to remove is indicated with a red arrow in the picture below, it'* the top tranny transaxle photo:

The rebuilt axle that I received is in the phot below, see how it has a male end.

I wish I could get more excited and the new lesson that lash taught me yesterday on how to post files, but I will once I get my car back. It'* one thing for me to take transit or walk, but when my family relys on me to give them rides and my car is down for weeks, that bothers me.

Bill, thanks for sticking with me on this. And thanks to Technical Dad, and rustedmetal and anyone I've missed. As it stands now I think its quite possible that they gave me the wrong side. I have to absolutely sure that I'm right since I already got into a dissagreement with the parts guy that my CV boots were wrong. That'* why I ened up going with the whole rebuilt shaft. There was nothing wrong with the CV joints, it was only one inner boot.
