drippy exhaust question
OK, I'm hoping someone will shed light on this - maybe you've had some experience.
As you may know, my 2000 SE is currently stock - mods to come, but that'* a discussion for another time.
I warmed up the car this morning and came out to go to work, and noticed some liquid on the ground behind the car. Upon closer inspection, it was water, directly underneath the muffler (no biggie, I understand condensation is normal.) But it usually comes out the tail pipe, n'est-ce pas? This was coming from the opposite end of the muffler (I know - I had to climb under the car to find it). It also seemed that there was more wetness around the frame of the car and toward the catalytic converter. Is this indicative of a problem with the muffler (puncture/rusting/incorrect installation) or maybe an issue with the catalytic converter? On appearance, the muffler seems to be the original on the car (only 45,000 miles) but there'* no outward signs of rust, just normal age.
Whew, sorry to be so long-winded on a Monday morning. Hope someone can send me in the right direction. Maybe if it'* a big enough issue, it'll force me to dive into the mods....

If it'* coming after the cat.. it should be fine in the sense the cat is working. I"ve talked to a few people before about water coming out of the end like you mentioned.. the cat somehow converts the emission to water and carbon monoxide instead of carbon dioxide ( or vise versa ). As for not coming out of the muffler.. it seems like you either have a leak hole ( from either inproper fittings of the exhaust pipe, or damage caused by road debris possibly )

Thanks Turtle....I know it'* normal, and I did mention that it wasn't coming out of the tailpipe, but from the opposite end of the muffler.
Talked to a guy here at work, and he seems to corroborate Drifter'* assessment - I've got a hole somewhere. I *DO* live in New York State, and I'm sure the wonderful road salt and various debris have put the exhaust pipes in sad shape. Guess it'* time to go to performance
Good thing I'm on a first-name basis with the guys at my local muffler shop....

I concur, you should have water out of the tailpipes only, not anywhere else. You probably have a leak somewhere, so just check it out and report back to us on your findings.

Muffler Condensation
I noticed the same thing with my '96 when it was new, I don't know if your muffler is the same but there is a small weep hole on one end of the muffler that allows water (condensation) to exit the muffler and not build up into a pool inside. This is an intentional factory feature to help prevent muffler rust-out...
