When i got my tube from the dealer, is was the same plastic stuff, cost about 8 bucks i think. The expensive part was the tensioner assembly that i broke the lower fitting off of when taking it out. That was around 80 or 90 bucks.

Hate to bring up a ZOMBIE thread, but this particular car had a metal fitting at the back, with the upper/front fitting still being plastic. I'd replace it at 60-80,000 with the serpentine belt. The $8 package comes with two plastic elbows, so some have plastic instead of metal on the back as well (or I have an aftermarket tensioner, not sure).

I've replaced several of these now, so it'* really a piece of cake. Did the water pump in about 4 hours last weekend.

Sorry to dig up a ZOMBIE thread, but hopefully it helps someone out.

the best one to have is the new aluminum elbows. there are write ups in the mechanical section and many threads
