Codes from SES light in my '94?
Hey All,
I've been trying to search the archives for an answer, but haven't quite found what I need.
I'm wondering if I can retreive the codes causing my SES light, on my own? I've done it on several of my other older cars, but just want to see if it is still something that I might be able to do on the '94 SSEi?? I seem to recall a post way back saying that the '94 was a wierd year, something about the ECM not being a true OBD-I or OBD-II.
I'd really like to just use my trusty paperclip and get an idea what'* wrong before settling on a trip to the shop, which will cost me a fair amount and maybe even tell me something that I could have done myself.
I saw that the codes were listed up to the '93 model year. If anyone can offer some advice regarding my '94, that would be great. The light just came on a couple nights ago, but has been staying on since. Thanks!!

Cant read (94) by jumping diagnostics terminal with ground terminal (paper-clip), Auto parts chain will do it for free, just ask! (Autozone, Advance, Pep boys) depending what you have in your location

1994 and 1995 Models will use the same codes...
But the diagnostic pin is not present in the DLC after 1993... You will need a scantool capable of reading the 94-95 GM cars with a 16 pin OBD2 cable...
Most auto parts stores will not be able to read this car.... There are a few that use the actual scantool... Most don't...

Aw, that'* what I was afraid of. Oh well, I guess I'll have to take it in this time, and consider getting a scanner for future use.
Of course after I posted, the car developed some other issues over the weekend. Appearent bad connection at the positive battery cable. Don't see how that and the light could be connected, though, so I'll figh tone of these first, then see what'* left. Thanks for the responses!!
