Well I took it into the shop who ran a test to determine it. I think it was somewehre in the neighborhood of 200 bucks or so for replacement. The second time was the big dog the SC belt snapped and took a ton of crap out but ya it was jst what the mechanics told me at the time

I think I got it!
I am revisiting my random stall problem after driving with this annoyance for a while.
Based on the thread posted here below, I believe a dirty/old and/or stuck EGR valve is my problem. A eureka moment: Thinking back, the stalls happen when I am coasting downhill (aka coming down off a bridge) or when I coming to a stop. The reason I have been able to deal this potentially dangerous situation so well is that I am often at or near a stoplight so I can just throw it in neutral and restart-- and that fails, restart in P. So far -- knock on fake dash wood-- the car has always restarted.

I am going to try to clean it first, if that doesnt work, I will go to a JY. Not ready to plunk down the cash for a new one just yet...

EGR valve replaced, runs better!
Pulled an EGR valve from a relatively lo-mile JY donor. Just looking the two, I can see where the pintle in my old one was 'shut' (torx head end was flush with flange) while the JY aftermarket one had its pintle set back about 1/8". Also, looking in the interior of the tubing' portion I could immediately see that my old one had a lot of carbon, while the JY one looked fairly 'smooth. Starting and short drive in the car proved to be running smoother than before! Yay!!!
