can't open hood on 94 bonnie
hello this is a really great site! and especially great for someone like me who needs help!
i have recently found out that my car'* hood is stuck! the release handle under dash has been pulled 1" out of its original place. i don't know if it was like that before or was it because my mechanic pulled it out w pliers? but there is no "feel" when pulling it , the hood right now kinda looks uneven... its locked down except driver side looks more elevated than passenger side... and when driving on highway that side vibrates more!
i hope i am not boring everyone w so much detail... just want to give a clear picture without a picture!
i have always noticed it being sticky and have to sort of "work" with it every time before it can be opened. by that it means to shake, pound, drive around for a bit.. probably should'v done something about it sooner but i didn't own the car before. took over when i started school this September.
looked around and searched on this site... (for an hour).. seen some really cool rides also gathered that
1 the honeycomb grill is factory assembled
2 i can POSSIBLY unlatch the hood from under and up
3 now i know how to clear turning lights heehee we'l leave that for Christmas break
however, i sort of remember there'* the handle under hood release, AND a cable hood release which is further behind and this is most likely the one i need to pull on?
i hope someone can give me some guidance on this... some pics would be super.. really don't want my mechanic to cut the hood in half! (he just bought a 95 SSE or SSEi? as scrap) on the other hand, my 94 has a kinda rusty front... maybe it'd be worth it? (the 95 is shining and scratch/dent free)
anyways, hope to hear from someone soon!
once again, this is an awsome site!!

actually the cable slides in and out of the plastic handle piece. it is out right now and hangs for a bout 1-1.5"
should i just get the mechanics to cut the hood in half? from the look of that other 95, it seems pretty hard.... just want to get a second opinion. i would probly bring it back this friday.
thnx peter btw... i will check on it during the day

NOOOO, dont cut the hood in half. keep fightin with it. on my buick, i have to first pull the hood release. then give it 2. not 1, but 2 "fonzy" hits just right, of the center of the hood. maybe try that?

Does the 94 have the Black plastic air deflector under the front of the car bolted onto the Frame? If it does remove it.... You'll have to reach a hand in there and see if you can get a grab of the Hood release cable... It will be to the drivers side of the radiator and will come down near the air filter box... If you can get the right cable you should be able to pull the H*** out of it and pop the hood... It will be a PITA, but it beats cutting the hood...

Destroying your hood in order to get into the engine bay should be the very last option.
It should be easy enough (if the car is elevated) to get under, remove the deflector as Don mentioned and yank on the cable.
