'93 bonneville, SE, I need a cam sensor magnet, I noticed my plastic carrier is cracked, want to correct that while the engine is torn down. I've read of people B weld-ing it in place, which would be easy while it is on the bench, but I'm not too keen on that. HOWEVER, the only source I've found for this magnet is the dealer - 60 bucks. There'* got to be an aftermarket source.. can someone provide a part number / source OR comments on the JB weld method. thanks guys. Mike

Here we go, it is different, hence more expensive.

yeah, I called rock auto.. 25 bucks.. My magnet is still there, the plastic carrier is cracked.. what has been the results of glueing these things? BTW, I only have dial-up here at home, it takes roughly 25 minutes to load rockauto, which is why I came here first - it only takes 5 minutes here. Advice on th JB weld method? Mike

Installed with JB Weld last winter in the Zilla:

Inspected last weekend during the motor swap. Fully intact, no problems (after only about 1000-1500 miles put on it in the last year). Keep in mind, the 92 and newer typically don't have problems throwing the magnet, but this was cheap insurance. Note the LeSabre link above is for 91 and older cars that have a reputation for tossing the magnet.

hmm i have scrapped some later years 3800 engines recently maybe i should have saved more than just the intakes and rails and injectors and such hmm oops
too late now
one was a perfectly good engine and low mileage but accidently got full of rain water over a few months time
have never come across one of these with this particular problem and we have worked on and swapped out many over the years
interesting !

This topic is regarding 92 and newer, which typically don't have this problem. That was 87-91 LG3'* and LN3'*.
