Default a/c clutch coil shot?

Hi all,

Basically my compressor doesn't turn.

I used a Redtek kit (the new r-12a) stuff to fill up the bonne a few days ago. I actually had an HVAC guy with me from work doing this, and with the engine off, with one can of r-12a and leak stop the low side was charged to ~90 psi.

The low pressure switch was also jumpered and I checked the voltage right to the compressor and I got 13.8 V when I turned on the a/c, therefore the compressor is getting the signal (assuming no dirty connections or flipped connector). Is my clutch coil gone? Also, is it possible that the connector is placed in backwards? What'* the easiest way of replacing it and do I have to recharge the system if I do this (I just spent $80 bucks on the kit!).

Also, does anyone know the resistance of the clutch coil so I can test it?

Don't really know a/c clutch coil resistance, but what ohmic value do you read. Also, read each pin (clutch side) to ground, what is it reading? The connector to the clutch should only be able to connect one way if it is keyed. There may be a diode across the clutch ckt. which would have an adverse effect if incorrect polarity applied to clutch coil.
