Just twist the metal sleeve while pulling fairly hard, they will pop off. The coils are held on with 2 5.5mm bolts.

Not to be an ***, but just to clarify, I think it'* better to twist BEFORE you even pull to try and break things loose first. Then continue to twist/pull to get them off. Be patient, and they'll come off Watch those knuckles though!

Best method I have found to deal with the shields is to push them down onto the plug, then you have a little more of the plug boot exposed to grip.

The 00+* are a bit harder to reach the #6 plug, but with all of them, getting that shield down and out of the way gives you more to grab on to. If they're stuck on pretty good, you're going to have to twist at least about half way around before it will start to move the bottom part of the boot. So, make sure your starting point allows for that much movement. Twist one way, then back the other, then back again..... They'll eventually break loose.

If you buy new wires...a hammer can be used..

I happen to have purchased lifetime AC Delco'*, and don't have an 00 to fight.

I bought the wires but haven't put them on yet.

Today I replaced the sparking coil the car is WORSE it is missing more.

The spark is leaping from under the plug wire cap on the coil down to the 5.5mm bolt on the side this causes engine misfire.

WHY does it prefer the bolt to going through the wire?

Is it the wire? Place your bets now! I fear it is not the wire.

:(

It was the wires alright fellers my Bonne is hummin' again!

I paid my nice garage to do the job of replacing the wires I had purchased, they also replaced the plugs. I replaced one coil myself I'll do the others later.

Thanks to all!

Hold up..

You paid someone to change plugs and wires? The coil is probably the toughest part of the job.

The coil the hardest? I did that in the parking lot of the parts store in two minutes with a 5.5mm socket and wrench.

My mechanic spent an hour changing the plugs and wires it is a nasty, horrible job; confined hidden spaces, dirty, HOT. I don't have the best tools and equipment I have ZERO experience changing plugs on an engine like the 3800. I was glad to pay them.

These cars are one of the easiest FWD cars to do plugs on. it takes like 30min to do it. and they are very easy to get to.
