Best scan tool / data recorder?
Howdy! I'm new to the club and have a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. If I can get it to run at all, it runs poorly, missing and stuttering. Ran fine until it started doing this. Sounds electrical to me. It'* got new plugs and wires. Normally the first thing I'd do is hook up a scan tool, but I don't have a scan tool that will work on the '92. I'm thinking coil packs, then ignition module, then crank or cam sensor, then computer... But I have no scan tool (well, actually I have two--Turbolink 2.1 and WIN ALDL, but neither reads the '92 L67...) Any advice?

Well, first off, you're in a bit of luck, since you should be able to retrieve the basic error codes using your 12-pin ALDL connector. Here'* some instructions here in TECHINFO:
1987-1993 ECM/PCM Code retrival
Then you can use the diagnostic code info from this article:
1992-93 Vin # 1 supercharged 3800 ECM Codes
Then, I want to ask if you've carefully reviewed all your vacuum lines and especially the rubber connectors. Cracks or splits in those can certainly cause the symptoms you mention.
