Yes, get the scanner on for the surging and also yes...4K is the max you can do before the rev limiter stops you. Anything over say 3,800RPM in N or P and your motor will see to have problems, it'* just the limiter

As for the automatic bypass, I'm afraid I can't help you. I know nothing about a device like this.

When I hooked it up in series, I put the auxilliary cooler after the stock one, so I unhooked the return line of the stocker. The return line is the top line coming out of the passenger side. I sent a line from there to the aux. cooler, then piped the return line of the aux. cooeler into the metal line that runs back to the tranny. If that'* a little confusing, I'll try to explain it differently. Also, I'll try to get some pics up if you'd like 'em.

EDIT: By the way, I think my cooler is a Hayden 404. They rate the coolers (at least here in the States) by GVW cooling capacity. Mine can handle something like 24,000 lb. GVW or something like that, which is considered a cooler for a light truck. You'll probably want a cooler that can handle 18,000 GVW minimum. Most major brands should be fine... Hayden, B&M, Derale, Perma-Cool, etc.

Thanks I will give it a try.
The automatic bypass is just a valve that bypasses the tranny cooler if the fluid gets to cold... probably have them all over here but not in the hot climates.
The lucas stuff did nothing really... had the surging come back.
Cooler is next.. perhaps a flush as well.

Yeah, my surging is heat related, no doubt. Today was the first day this week with temps in the 90s, and it was the only day I have experienced surging. I need to have my tranny fixed!

My 97 is kickin with it'* new tranny cooler.

Here'* a hint for anyone thinking they want the factory cooler look and fit. Like on a 92-95. Find a Caddy. Same exacty cooler..same bends..completely identical in every way. Right down to the U bend coming off the radiator.

wish I knew that before I installed mine. It was a PITA making the bends with my tube bending tool. Took me all afternoon.
Do caddy sedan devilles have the same?
I'll check next time I'm at the bone yard.
