I'm not trying to hijack here, but just think that the clogged fuel filters could contribute to premature failure of the fuel pump by placing more strain on them than needed. Therefore, it makes sense to me that it be re-considered as a regular interval replacement item, say every 50,000 miles or so. The cost of the filter is not that much for a maintenance item.

Which reminds me...time to replace mine again, lol.

well the only thing that i can see is the lack of flow by the clogged filter, which in my eyes would put more strain on the pump, having to work harder

I changed my filter at 48-50K and it was basically brand new when i took the old one off....I could blow right through with the same ease as the new one

Anywho.. While being aware of my FPR/Fuel Pump issues, I'm curious.. Any other thoughts to what might becausing the problem?

I'm asking again because of my last experience with a bad fuel pump. Granted it was in a L27, but still.. I lost power on the high end with the bad pump. It had no problem powering me through the low end then kinda had trouble revving while I was in high gears.

Could this other problem be spark related? Is it worth pulling a couple plugs and looking for residue?

On that note of focusing on one thing.

I shall suggest testing the fuel pump per the procedure in the FSM. It would be a great write up and experience for the club if you document the FSM procedure for your year and your results.

Until you read the procedure and test it properly you will not know if FP what could be a problem.

I thought mine was low. Then I read and followed the correct procedure for my year. It'* not low, jjust a noisy pump. (Especially w/o a back seat ) Saved me money and the grief of changing the pump for no reason.

What are you doing?

We are here to help you Morty.. please slow down to diagnose things and follow through. It appears you are a squirrell running out into the street, changes mind breaks left, changes mind breaks right, changes mind heads down road, then back. Bad news..the squirrel usually gets flattened.

When attempting to diagnose an issue. There are great diagnosis charts in the FSM'*. For example if you look in the FSM for the type of symptom you are having (no..the other book) you will find it is there with things to test and follow up on. Right now you "think" you have an issue and are shooting in the dark as to what might cause it.

What if you have a hairline crack in an exhaust manifold and your knock sensors are picking it up and retarding timimg or a squirel crawled into your air filter and is blocking air intake? The FSM would tell you..."look for restriction in air intake" or "Test fuel pressure with gauge and proper procedure."

If it seems like I am being hard on you or others view it that way, I'd like to mention some over phone support and difficulty following through to diagnose things. My harshness is to slow you down and help you find your problem w/o wasting money and time.

Yes, I'm going to follow the diagnosis in the FSM for testing the fuel pressure when I get the car back. I didn't realize I wasn't doing it right either.

I need to spend more time RTFM.

yes Aaron we are here to help.....BUT as my above post, phone calls and IM'* say....one thing at a time.......you cant solve a problem like this if you have no idea what you have or havent done or by mixing and hoping parts will solve the problem.....

take a step back....slow down....one problem at a time...it will get resolved....trust us
