94 BVille starts fine than dies (FIXED)
I have a nice Bonneville that has 150K miles and has been running fine till a few days ago. I was idling with the AC on and it just died. I restarted it and it was fine.
Next day it died 3 more times and was more of a pain to start but started and got me home.
Is there a way to check for trouble codes on a 94 without a computer?
Last year I replaced the Computer, Fuel pump and filter. 2 Mos ago i replaced the fuel filter again.
Because I am in a rural part of Nevada I am stuck at home till I get it running.
Any ideas?

I'd start by removing the plugs & checking them out. Keep track of what cylinder each plug came from. Two plugs that are darker than the rest could indicate a weak coil. If it'* been a while you might want to replace the plugs & wires.
You'll need a scanner to read the codes for your year.

Another possibility is the IAC/MAF/TB combination. Disconnect your MAF sensor (rectangular block mounted in the TB with 3 screws). Does it run better? Worse?
Follow the procedure in Techinfo (link at the top of the page) for Throttle Body/MAF cleaning. You'll need a new gasket.
If the IAC passage is blocked, the engine will not get sufficient air to idle. But do check your coils as mentioned as well. There'* a procedure in Techinfo for that, also. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any members living close enough to you with scanning ability for your car. (yes, I know where you live, I usually check that when someone may be in need of a scan)

Thank you both .
I just checked the coils and the secondary is within spec.
The primary resistance for all 3 is .4 (spec lists .5-.9)
Another thing I forgot was I just had it smogged a month ago, it passed VERY easily.
Ok just unpluged MAF, runs the same,
checked/cleaned IAC/MAF/TB. Also same.
Replaced the Computer yesterday, no difference.
Now i notice when I start it and let it idle it just dies in about 5 seconds (like running out of gas)
I start it and give it gas to idle at 3000RPM and it dies in the same amount of time. Fuel Pump?
When I had it replaced originally it was supposedly a Master Brand from Kragens (not the best quality)
Maybe pump problem?
Oh yes I checked/cleaned the grounds also.
BIG THANKS to all for the Techinfo Excellent reading.

You need to know if you have any codes at all... Has the SES light been on for any reason?
And if you do have the Codes read make sure its not a 1361... some will show this as a 361..
and was this PCM a used PCM or a Reman?

No SES light.
Now it will start and run a few seconds and die thats it. Lucky I got it home the other day.
I can start it and it will run a few seconds and die.
LOL, I just realized my BVille looks just like the one you use above the " Log Out", Red with the silver/gray wheels.
EDIT: sorry for misleading you all. I edited my posts to say I have replaced the computer not ECM.

How much fuel pressure do you have?
Rule of thumb for the L27 is 41-47 Psi.. You may fall a little lower with idle vacume..
at the same time the car starts but dies quickly...
when you start the car you start it in ICM( Ignition Control Module ) Timing.... After 400 Rpms there should be a handshake between the ICM and PCM and the PCM should then take over control..
What did the PCM come from? Or is it a parts store reman? also did you swap out the EPROM to the replacement PCM?
and check that fuel pressure too

Thanks Jr for the replies. I dont have a fuel pressure tester.
When I switched the computer(reman from Kragens) I also switched the EPROM from the old comp to the new one.

ECM (engine control module) is the term for the computer on cars before electronic transmissions. It became PCM (powertrain control module) with the electronic trannys. So if you say ECM or PCM we know you mean the computer.
ICM is the ignition control module located under the coils. Hope that helps with the acronyms.

Let'* se if we can start narrowing this down. Turn the key to the run position a couple times to pressurize the fuel rail. Place some rags around the schader valve to catch any spilled gas. Now press in the center of the schrader valve. Position your hands so gas can't spray in your face while pressing the valve.
Change the rags & try this after all fuel has evaporated from the engine. Start the car & after it stalls turn the key off & press the center of the valve again. Did the spray seem to have the same pressure?
