4T60E questions Update: trans and motor in
Well, my new used trans was doin' pretty good when the rear crankshaft seal popped. Now the '95 SLE is back in the driveway. Since the engine needs the UIM work done anyway, the engine and trans are comin' out together this time. I have some specific questions about the trans, though.
When I drive it with a constant moderate acceleration, it makes all the upshifts really nice (soft actually) but the very last shift, really the lockup into 4OD, I guess, results in a little slip that you can feel, hear, and see on the tach - maybe about 200 or 300 rpm, then it settles in to OD. It also wants to shift out of OD really easy going up hills, (The '92 SSEi never does this.)
I have the old trans and torque converter which shifted OK when it shifted and here are the questions: Is this lockup slip a TC issue or a trans issue? While I have the trans out, is it an easy fix? If it is a TC problem, I can swap in the old TC.
And, I notice something like an o-ring on one of the three shafts coming out of the trans when the TC is out. Is this something that I should change? What would happen if this seal was leaking. It looked kinda worn out on the trans I installed.
I would like to get this as right as I can afford to so I don't have to do it again! Of course, if I had changed the rear seal when I had the trans out, I would be happily motoring (albeit with a little slip) right now.

My 95 SSEi does the same thing, runs up a couple RPM'* before settling into the OD.....I think it would more be a TC problem or the solenoid.........I know which lil o ring that your talking about but I dunno what it'* for either and the effects of it being bad or not.

Well the trans had 21.5 pints of new fluid in it and it was doing this pretty much from the day I installed it last week. So, maybe the TC from the old trans, which did not exhibit that slippage in OD lockup, will fix the problem. That would be pretty easy to do.

Well, the Old TC worked perfectly and it has the exact same numbers on it. The trannys are the exact same model, and type: both 5BXW But, it couldn't hurt to price a new one, I guess.

Mine does the same thing. As a matter of fact from the soft shifts to the 200rpm slip into TC lockup you're tranny sounds identical to mine. Have you ruled out an electrical problem? When you take apart the transaxle replace any sensors in it. The trans shop and quite a few people on here said my problems are probably due to a sensor inside the tranny.
