3800 II how long it lasts?
Ok here is one I am sure at some point has been asked. We all know that this motor is a good motor. But how long will it last, I know with the right maintenance will be a factor. I have one of my own that has 194000kms on it and I am the second owner. I have a friend looking to buy one and it is a 1993 with 270000kms. So is there anyone on here that has a car with even more mileage and has an idea what GM thinks it will last for.

I wish I saw one with 1,000,000 miles. Then you could say the 3800 lasts as long as a K&N air filter But yes Miketa, these engines last quite a long time with regular maintenance, and a 180 stat helps too.
As long as your friend gets a good deal on the one with 270,000kms and it was well cared for, he should be pleased.

A guy i know had an '89 sse with 230,000 and he did not take care of it at all
he used 5w30 WAL-MART OIL and well; he changed oil in it when ever he felt
like it he was a car dealer so he put an a lot of miles on in a year. He finely retired it
when the trans whent. Poor 3800 R.I.P!!!

My car is approaching 200,000 miles on it, or 321,868 kms, and still runs very strong. It pegs the boost gauge, and I can break 'em loose without even thinking about it (though I don't do it very often). I just replaced the tranny, so it went 200,000 miles before needing replaced. That rates as excellent in my book...
