1st you need to put year and model of your car in your signture. The you said the engine light was on depending on the year get the codes pulled, If it 93 older you should be able to pull them by jumping the to pins on the left side. If is older then that you need to get scanner to read it.

VATS
It won't be a VATS problem if the engine is turning over. My cranks sensor would act up when it was hot, car would die and not start. On a 1992 you can pull the codes yourself by following procedure in the link in the earlier post. You will love the Bonneville SSEI after you get back to running well.

It is NOT VATS as Don pointed out. The engine is cranking.
We need some solid troubleshooting on this, not just 'it might be this'. The owner of this car is going to chase his tail if this keeps up.
Check for fuel pressure, spark at the front three cylinders, and scan for codes. Report back what you find.

so i checked spark on the coils and the secondary was fine on all coils. ill try the codes trick and see if that works and ill check for fuel pressure ( i checked the valve on the fuel rail and gas did spit out though) ill report back as soon as i try reset the codes. now just for me please try and make some sence of this and tell me if i do or do not need a reader to do the scan

I didn't ask about your secondaries. I need to know if you have spark at all 3 front cylinders (1, 3, and 5). Do you know how to check for spark?
10 psi would be enough fuel pressure to squirt out, but not enough to start. Please check the pressure.

To check for codes. But a scantool that can read history codes would be preferred.

ok so i tried the code thing and this is what the SES light blinked like...
started as...
1 blink pause 2 blinks (start to codes)
1 blink pause 7 blinks (1st code)
1 blink pause 8 blinks (2nd code)
2 blinks pause 1 blink (3rd code)
4 blinks pause 2 blinks (4th code)
4 blinks pause 4 blinks (5th code)
5 blinks pause 8 blinks (6th code)
1 blink pause 2 blinks (end to codes)
It then went through these over and over again... what are these codes?

18 Cam/Crank error. Backing up the code 17. Looking more like a sensor now.
21 Throttle position sensor. Is it installed correctly? It'* thinking it'* at wide open throttle if the voltage is high. You have a sensor or wiring problem.
42 Ignition Control Circuit. Your PCM cannot take over control of the timing and fuel, so the ICM has to run in Module Mode. You may have a bad Ignition Control Module or a faulty connection or shorted wire.
44 Oxygen sensor. It'* either bad, or you have a wiring problem with it.
58 is a known bug in the 92 PCM. Ignore it.
At this point I'd start suspecting a possible bad PCM, however I think the first thing to do is change the ICM. It'* not handing off control to the PCM for timing and fuel. It MAY also be causing the other two codes that point to cam/crank sensors.
If that fixes those codes and the car starts, replace your TPS and O2.
