Won't rev past 3500rpm while in gear
Here'* the story....
Had the fuel pump assembly (and some lines) replaced in my 91 today. Drove her home, no problems. Took her into the city on the highway, no problems. Decided to take her back on the highway to go home....... won't rev past 3500.
It'll go up to 3000 smooth.... but if you give her WOT, she spikes to 3500, and drops back to 3000. (It'* almost like hitting a governer) Sometimes she'* spike upto 4000 and then drops hard back to 3000. When she'* in Park or Neutral, she revs all the way upto the red line just fine.
So, I'm thinking 3 things....
A)something to do with the fuel pump/stuff I had repaired
B)Throttle Position Sensor
C)Transmission Transmission Transmission
I'm going to contact my mechanic on Monday when he'* open again, but until then is there anything I can try/do to narrow down what might be causing this?

A small piece of debris that fell into the tank when they were taking out the old pump is all it takes to clog off a pressure line! That'* why you're suppose to blow off the sender area BEFORE removal.

i dont know why i didnt ask this before. is the SES light coming on, if its running out of fuel that long, it will set a code for the O2 sensor running lean. it has to have that condition for 2 mins before it sets.
something else to think about, when you replace the pump, they give you a small piece of hose in the kit, it goes between the pump and the sending unit. sometimes they get pin holes in it and blows some of the fuel out the side of the hose instead of making it to the injectors.as far as dirt, when you do a pump, you must replace the strainer. it takes alot of dirt to plug it up for that condition, and no way will it do it that quick. first thing to do, you need to scan your car and check the fuel pressure and see where you stand.

I would vote for a fuel supply problem. You need to take it back to them.

Thanks again for all your help folks... and I'll let you know how I make out.
