yeah, but it goes away after about a month each time i reseat the cluster. every now and then i can press on a sweet spot on the cluster and that fires them back up, but it seems like it is just the screens that dont work, because my DIC still makes noise, and both compass and DIC fade exactly the same.

I am a fan also of Pontiac. Me and my girl have 1992 Firebird with 196,100 miles on it.Even though it is banged up and lost its gas cap cover (BROKE OFF) and the hitch to the back which makes the back shut broke(using a bunji chord to hold it down) there is amazingly at least 75% original parts on the car and it still has some tremendous pull with its 305 v-8 which I drive along with the 89 Bonneville SSE we purchased for $750 with 130,000 and a tranny with 50,000 on it.This car ride is incredible thats all I can say. This is my first Bonnie since my father had 0ne in the 60;* when I was young. If I just bought a $40,000 car and it dorve this good I would be a very satisfied customer.I cant believe what I have been missing.BONNIES ARE AWESOME

I just hit 240,000 miles two weeks ago with no major engine or tranny problems. I celebrated by cleaning out the throttle body & giving her a fresh tune up I swear this car will easily hit 300K. It looks like hell but runs perfect! The body falling off is going to be the downfall of this car, cant complain about that!

I was at the junkyard yesturday & this post reminded me to look at some Bonneville odometers.
89SSE-164K no visable major body damage (must have been engine/trans)
88LE-141K rear ended
89se-201K, front ended
93 SSE-189K, rolled

None of them really had "dirty" engines other than the 89 SSE. Most had the famous leaky valve covers though

i have a 1989 SSE Bonneville with now 372,675 miles on the original engine with no work done on the engine yet so far. And the best part is the car just keeps running better as it gets older.
