Transmission will not shift from 1st gear
My brother picked up a 91 Lesabre, in nice shape, more than a fair price. HJowever the transmission will not shift out of first gear. Vacumn line is attached and in good shape, fluid is at the correct level , TV cable adjusted properly. Odometer reads 145k. Goes right into gear, no slippage at all, pulls strong to 20mph, but simply will NOT get outta first.
Thanks in advance

You need a rebuild. Either that or the TV cable has come loose in the transmission, in either case it has to be removed. This is what happened to my car, first and reverse worked perfectly (which i'm assuming is your case) but when i tore the transmission down all the clutch packs were burnt, the OD thrust washer was in pieces, and there was chunks of clutch material all over the place. So that'* just my .02 from experience.

Maybe try manually shifting it. Put the gear selector in 1st, push the car a little, then put the gear selector in 2nd, and see what happens.
I don't think anything is burnt, i bet a check ball or something is stuck, causing it not to shift. if somethign was burnt, it woudls hif then slip
