I was totally unaware that a strut tower brace was available for the SSE. At any rate, make sure you tell them that you need 2 tower mounts and the strut bar. When you buy the parts from GM they come separately and at separate charges. Also the bolts are NOT included.

Ask them what the difference is between the 90 SSE strut bar and the 92+ standard strut bar. At least thats a starting point. FYI, the 92+ fits...so if the 90 SSE came with one...you might wanna get that. Ask them to clarify

Ok, took a look in the engine bay at the strut towers. The two bols on the inboard side are *ahem* rusted. What is undernearth these - as in, should I have to bust them off, and I going to screw anything up under the covering of the strut tower? Or might I have a massive sping pop thru and attach my head permanently to the hood?

That'* generally the idea. Jim got the STB for a '92 and the required mounting hardware from GM, and bolted the STB on. Apparently, a world of difference. I'm thinking of doing this, but want to know what the bolts on the ST are for, and if I have to bust them off, what are the ramifications.

Take a look at some of Jim'* (89BonnieSE89) pics to see what we mean. Look thru the thread for that post.

Hmm... Maybe not explaniing clearly enough. I'll take some pics with the digicam this weekend.

There currently is no bar. To mount it, would have to remove the bolts that are currently in the strut tower. Just want to sure that when I remove these that nothing funky is gonna happen...

OK..first off, clean off the rusted bolts as best you can. They torque off very easily. Take an SOS pad or something. Its ok, mine we're bad too..but I cleaned em up ok. Secondly that funny looking metal thing underneath the bolts, that comes right off.

Nothing flies out..lol

It bolts right down.

No flying springs? Groovy!

Its weird - there is a layer of white powder there - assuming some sort of corrosion. Whatever. A little WD40 will cure all that ails me!

If I got the STB off of a '92 (or newer ) from a wrecker, would the mounting stuff used in that car be the same that I need for the 88? Could save some $$ over buying the stuff right from GM...

Ya, it would be the exact same. I got mine new from GM so it came in 3 pieces, 2 tower mounts and 1 strut bar. If you find one at a wrecker, it will already be installed and assmebled.

That is what Jr did. and it works great. Trust me
