Rear Struts In 87
Noticed OldBonnie starting to sag in the back. Probably from 17 years of hauling a full trunk of groceries. She has the original struts on front and rear. The front struts are still tight. The rear bounces like a basketball. I was shocked to see struts on the rear of this car. I thought shocks went on the rear. Anyway, how hard is it to change these rear struts? Thanks

If memory serves me correct, my rear setup is the (air) shock seperate from the spring - there are shocks. Am I reading this incorrectly? :?:

There'* struts. It'* pretty simple to pull one.
1) Safely support car on jack stand.
2) Pull tire.
3) Place floor jack under ball joint.
4) Mark the edges of the strut on the knuckle and the body.
5) Remove two nuts on the top of the strut, Inside trunk.
6) Lower A-Arm until strut is not under pressure.
7) Remove two giant bolts that have probably rusted solid by now.
8 ) Remove strut.
Install is reverse. Line up new strut to marks from old one. The only place you should drive it is to get an alignment.
If you only have one strut out at a time you don't have to worry about the spring coming out, Take both out and it'* a chance.
