yep right at the tb, because the whole air box shook, i checked for how much oil is in her, and she is just barely below the full, i'm about to change the oil, thats why she was running.

If it was an oil pressure problem, I'd expect to hear a knocking sound on the bottom end or some valve slaping not a poping sound at the TB. Since you are changing the oil anyway, why not drop the pan and check for a clogged pump screen? It'll take a few extra minutes and only cost you the price of a gasket.

Drain oil first, remove pan next. After you drain the oil, check for crud in the drain pan. If there is any chunky stuff, that usually indicates a clogged screen.
No special tools should be req'd to R & R an oil pan.

re: dream - you know the Monaro CV8 is being imported as the GTO ?
Even GM says not to trust a dash guage, if you were not getting any oil pressure, the fuel pump should cut off. When in doubt, use a mechanical guage. What is the idiot light doing ?
"Popping" could be a burnt valve (compression test would show) or just two plug wires on the wrong plugs or coil pack terminals. Have seen engines run and idle that way before.
