Yes justin, by "no 2-3 upshift" they mean the car does not engage into a higher gear. Wether it engages and won't move or won't engage period it'* toast. You're screwed man, sorry to say. Pull that badboy out of there and rebuild it. Or find a good used one. Sorry man.
Oh and BTW i just checked for used parts, there'* several low mileage tranny'* in michigan for between 400 and 550. Just FYI.

Ouch, opensourceguy, you have to stop the street racing. I know your car does low 12'* in the 1/4 but your tranny is more important. Sorry for the jokes, was trying to make you light of the situation.
Don't know if it worked but I don't hold much hope in saving your tranny after what I read in the previous post..
Good luck!

Sounds like you have a plan. Can I get you to clean that garage before you begin pulling the tranny apart in there?
If you are aiming to do this yourself, remember complicated isn't the word. Take the time, ask tons of questions and take your time. (Yes..twice) You'll need a nearly sterile operating room to work on this tranny. One speck could cause problems.

Well, no I could not get a sterile garage. However, we have a fairly clean basement, with a 4x8 work bench. I don't know exactly how much room I am going to need to do this, but I do have a bottom shelf on the work bench, and tons of floor space. It isn't the best, but no matter what, I would definitely cover the project up when not in use.
Yesterday was pretty much a studying day. I read the disassembly procedures and looked at the pretty pictures for a good 3-4 hours. I even did it instead of watching golf . It looks pretty daunting, but I believe as long as I pay very close attention to how it comes apart, I should be alright. Plus the pictures are fairly detailed so if I were to screw the order up, I still should be alright. I'm actually kind of excited. The engine/trans pulling scares me the most though..
I'll start a new thread in general about this, that way i'll get more readers, than in here [no offense to the 87-91 folks].

Hop to getting a thread started for the pulling and I'll jump on getting you as much good info about the pull/reinstall as I can. I think we can really get it out and in really easy. Leaving you two challenges. Getting the tranny into the basement and rebuilding it.
Sorry but I'm not available to operate the engine lift. (Randy really thought that was the best.)

opensourceguy If you can rebuild your tranny to the point where it will run properly and for a long time then your alot more mechanicaly inclined than I thought.
That'* one project I wouldn't even concider. I feel it'* to complicated for me. I quiver at the fact that I may have to re an re my original timming belt one day. My hat goes off to you. :o
Good Luck.
