How old is your fuel filter? If that'* original I wouldn't be surprised if it'* plugged. Here'* what I'd do...
Remove it, put a pan in the vicinity under the line, then turn the key on. If you get a nice flow, it'* not your pump, obviously. If you get the flow, install a new filter. Work back to the engine from there. A filter is the cheapest fix in the fuel delivery system.
I had an 87 Bonneville that crapped out the pump at 247K miles (in 2003). We decided to junk it at that point.

I agree that the fuel filter and the like should be replaced.... Just an off the wall question, Is there fuel in the tank? ( I have seen the senders in the tank go bad leaving you thinking there was fuel when the tank was really empty...

and yes i have added 3-4 gallons from a spare tank. so now my gas gauge shows i have a lil over a 1/4 tank..
like i said the car crapped out and sputtered with out the low fuel light even coming on... and once the car died the low fuel light came on and went off and has not came back on since in all the attempts to get the car started..
