more problems after code 44
ok so i've been driving my car for the last two days with the code 44 stored in the computer. The light has only came on once and then hasn't returned since. Now i'm having other thoughts about other problems. First my fuel pump is making really weird noises, and i'm wondering if it'* the pump or maybe a pressure regulator. I'm hoping to get a gauge tommorow so i can check my fuel pressure. Would these cause a code 44. Also the weather here has been unusually hot. 95-100. Would these temps have anything to do with anything. Also I had my fuel filter replaced last fall so i'm not thinking that'* the problem. Anything else I might be missing?

Sure, low fuel pressure can cause the lean condition because there is not enough fuel. There are some other things that can cause it.
Bad MAF sensor
Lean Injectors
Exhaust Leaks
Vacuum or Crankcase Leaks
Faulty Oxygen Sensor.

My experience is that an intermittant 44 or 45 is usually a failing O2 sensor particularly if it sets a minute after the engine goes into closed loop. That said there is no substitute for proper instrumentation.
For GM cars through 93 I like the OTC 2000 with the late cartrige - are pretty cheap since was obsoleted by the OTC 4000.
The other possibility is low fuel pressure. If you do not have a guage it will show up in a BLM or instantaneous that is far off 128.
