How do I pull engine codes?
My son has a '88 bonneville LE w/ the 3.8L V6 and he tells me the Check Engine Light come on when he is driving 60 mph or when he sets the cruise control.
1-Is there a way to get the codes by watching the engine light flash?
2-How do I do this?
3-Where do I find what the engine codes mean?
I could do this by turning the key on and off 3 times w/ my Dodge Neon but the Bonneville is new to me.
Thanks for the help.
Ben

Bandit, that only answers part of his question. I gave him the general direction of Techinfo, since the codes for his car are contained in a different article in the same section.
I prefer to GENERALLY steer new members to Techinfo to find their articles so they find other information that may help them and get an understanding of just how much information is up there.

ok so where arnt suppose to help people now?
so if we cant give all the info in the world to someone dont do it then...
Wow when did we start the new policy here.
Wren, Whats wrong with post direct links to help someone to something quick instead of haveing them have to look to find it. It just helping and thats what we like to do here.
Sorry next time i wont try to help someone unless i have every answer in the book ready to be posted in all one shot.

Steering them to Techinfo can help them in many more ways than you might imagine.
Nowhere did I mention a policy change, so check your attitude at the door. i was explaining to you why I didn't post the direct links to both articles he needs. It'* VERY easy to find the articles in their proper categories, and then he'll see how much other information we also have.
I explained WHY I did that, nowhere did I say 'don't do that'. Read it again.
So how did I not help him? Would you like to explain that to me?

Gosh...and you guys say we women are difficult to communicate with.
Of course we are here to be helpful - there are various ways of doing so. In cases where there are multiple topics required to find answers - showing new members where to find the info does benefit them in the long run. It'* that whole "teach a man to fish and he'll never go hungry" concept. Personally, I prefer to see both - show them and provide a link.
Khaki - I trust the tech info articles will provide you the answers to your questions. If you have any other questions after viewing them, please feel free to post them.
