Factory Security
Here is the problem. On the new car we picked up in Jan, it has the security light on the dash indicating it does have the factory security system. I got a call today that last night it was set off, and went on for a while. The car was started, it stopped, then when it would get shut off and locked, it would start going off again. It has since stopped, but considering we don't have any factory remotes for it and I have a brand new alarm/starter sitting here waiting to be installed, I wanted to eliminate the factory alarm.
I am looking at the FSM I have and I want to disable the system completely without affecting any other functions on the car, as in door locks, or anything else. Can I just unplug the control module ( located above the "Accel Control Lever Bracket"), or is that going to affect something else on the car?

Was trying to enjoy a movie tonight, and it started to rain pretty good. Then all we can hear is a horn beeping, of course it was the car. Horn beeping and lights flashing. unlock it with the keys, and it shut off.
I was inside the car and it started to rain really hard. I decided to hit the lock button. No sooner did I hit the button, it started the alarm again. I had to go outside to use the key to turn it off again. Drove the car under a roof we have to park under, and proceeded to RIP that damn module out of the car. I taped up the 2 connectors that used to be plugged into it.

I'd love to do exactly that to my 1988 SSE. My alarm goes off randomly too. Please can you discribe to me in more detail where this module is?

Pretty simple, well at least on my 90 SSE. Remove the panels that are under the dash on the drivers side, ( black plastic covering the wiring, just above the pedals". Then look just above you gas pedal, on the same bracket, you should see a little box with 2 connectors going into it, and a relay attached to it. I unscrewed the relay from the module and left it there. I then unscrewed the module from the gas pedal bracket. That allowed me to pull it down and unplug two 2 connectors. I then tapped the end of the connectors so it would short out on anything, tucked it all away, replaced the plastic panels and that is it.
The module that was installed in my car was black at the bottom( that was attached to the gas pedal), and there was another white unit tied to the black module, they are part of the same module.

I'm sorry, I was asking for myself. I will be putting an aftermarket alarm on my car and was just wondering if I pulled the factory unit will it disable the passlock on my car.
Sorry

AH well this is the 87-91 section, so that is why I knew there wasn't one. Normally you could ask that question in the proper year section, BUT since I have a passlock III on my 2003 Malibu, I know that you need to purchase a bypass module that you wire into the passlock system, but that is ONLY when installing a car starter. If you are just installing an alarm, I do not believe you need to worry about the passlock system.
The passlock system works off resistance in the ignition cylinder, only when you are starting it.
You could as this question in the electrical section OR in the section for your model year.
