brakes jerk whenb stopping at any speed
hi my brakes on my 1988 bonneville sse tend to jerk like if someone was pushing and pulling the brake pedal when i step on the brakes a lil hard. is it the abs system that does this or is it the brakes catching and releasing catching and realasing and need to be repaired. i could be going 5 to 10 mph and hit the brakes to stop at a stop sign and if i press them a lil harder then normal the brake pedal jerks in and out as almost if the brakes were sticky.. any help would be highly appreicated as i drive daily with 2 kids in the car and i dont want to be going 50 mph and god forbid have to jam on the brakes to avoid a accident and it become worse because i stepped on the brake too hard.. i do not no if this is normal as this is my first car i have owned with out borrowing a friends for a week or so... thanks john

Grabbing brakes can be caused by linings that are contaminated with brake fluid. Check for leaking wheel cylinders on the rear brakes. Also, check the fluid level in the MC reservoir.
Could also be a fault in the ABS system. A free check-up is a good idea.
[edit: These other guys are right, too. A pulsating pedal is a typical symptom of warped rotors. A good brake shop will be able to test that easily, too.]

I found warped rotors on mine only because the rears were misadjusted (self adjusters not working) and fronts took the whole load.
In other words make sure the rears are working when you replace rotors up front due to warpage.

Brake light on is an URGENT request for looking under the hood.
Check your brake fluid level before driving the car again. This is nearly a definate fluid on pad situation now. Increased as it sounds that you might be critically low on fluid and the potential for an accident is high if you do not address the lgiht/fluid level.

i had every single brake line replaced by amaco about 2 weeks ago because one of my lines were rusty and had a leak so i replaced them all to be safe. my brake fluid level is full. also the brake light tends to go off after a few times of stepping on the E brake and pulling the release after 5 or 6 times of doing this the brake light will go off but it aways comes on when i start the car..
